A stroll through the museums on the island of Ibiza

Ibiza stands out for many aspects. Previously in our blog, we talked about some curiosities of Ibiza. Today we're going to make you some suggestions about one of those aspects (the cultural one) that often goes missing. Here's our list of museums in Ibiza that you can't miss!

At the end of the article we leave you a link with the information and timetables of all these museums in Ibiza. Let's start the walk!

Museums in Ibiza: the essential ones

One of the obligatory dates if you are on holiday on the island and want to enjoy Ibiza's most interesting museums, is undoubtedly the MACE or Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza. It is located in the walled enclosure of Dalt Vila, so the visit is doubly interesting. It is also the largest picture gallery on the island.

On the other hand, the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera or MAEF is also worth a visit. You will get to know the life of these islands, the Pitiusas, from their well-known origins, thousands of years ago... And to observe a multitude of objects extracted from the excavations carried out in a World Heritage Site such as ours.

A last must-see among Ibiza's museums would be, from our point of view, the Ethnographic Museum that you will find in Santa Eulària. An enriching experience getting to know the habits and customs of the most rural Ibiza.

Other interesting museums in Ibiza

For a closer look at the work of local artists you can visit the Puget Museum which is located in an old manor house in the old town. This Ibiza museum exhibits the work of the painters Puget Viñas and Puget Riquer, who represent the life and landscapes of Ibiza in the mid-twentieth century.

If you are an architecture enthusiast, there is a museum in Ibiza la mar de curioso. It is the Broner House, the former residence of the rationalist architect Erwin Broner. It is also located in Dalt Vila and the views it offers from its roof terrace are also impressive.

Finally, we cannot fail to suggest a visit to the Necropolis of Puig des Molins. It doesn't matter if you're an archaeology lover: the state of conservation of what is the most important necropolis in the Mediterranean forces us to include it in our suggestions for museums in Ibiza.

Interpretation centres, another option for museums in Ibiza

Especially if you're on vacation with your family, interpretation centers are a more interactive option than traditional museums. In Ibiza we find several options focused on different themes.

For example, in Santa Eulària we find Can Planetes, an interpretation centre that explains the importance of the river in this parish throughout its history.

Eivissa is home to Madina Yabisah, an interpretation centre for the Muslim period of the island. Its informative work makes it one of the most interesting museums on Ibiza.

Finally, it is almost imperative to visit the Interpretation Centre of the Ses Salines Natural Park, one of the most important natural enclaves of the archipelago.
